Hi, blogger Shiz here.
Recovering from the mini surgery to remove a unknown lump from the side of my body.

Well, working at home is the best way to concentrate on production work. If I’m in the office, I end up working on other things like accounting & report making.

Right now we’re working on the final touches for sola vol 1.
Designer Chris worked on the character profile pages, while graphics assistant Cno is working on the ads and vol 2 preview.

Freelance editor Dee just turned in the translation notes, so that page needs to be worked on too.

sola vol 1 will be released in June.

Blogger Shiz here.
I haven’t posted reviews in a while… it’s probably because former Broccoli International sales manager Ardith stopped sending me links from the Google blog search thingie.

Anyway, here’s a review of My Dearest Devil Princess vol 2 by Comics Village

Happy reading!

Blogger Shiz here.

Man, I’m doing a lot of production related work lately.
Maybe because in one week, I’ll be working at home recovering from my mini surgery. But I digress.

I went through the final check for Koi Cupid vol 1 so it can be sent out to our printer. I haven’t been able to do this “final check” for a while, but I also did have editors to fall back on before.

The final check thru involves tedious tasks like making sure all the page numbers are correct & they match the information on the table of contents. Good thing Koi Cupid doesn’t have chapter titles, cuz that’s an extra thing to check.

BTW, the Japanese chapter headers were “1 Kyuu” “2 Kyuu”… but we realized (more than half way through production) that it doesn’t make any sense in English, so we changed it to “Love 1″ “Love 2.”

Another thing I checked for was making sure all Japanese terms were included in the translation notes. We missed “Koge-Donbo” and “Comi Deji” in the aftertalk section, so I had designer Chris add them in.

Koi Cupid vol 1 will be hitting stores in late May/early June.
If we’re lucky, we’ll have them for Fanime.

Hrm… Koi Cupid isn’t available on dot-anime.us. I gotta talk to retail manager Dennis about this.

Blogger Shiz here.

Designer Chris wrapped up the final round of fixes from freelance editor Dee, NIS America and me & submitted the batch of fixed pages to our printer in Hong Kong.

Now the books will go to print. It looks like we’ll be able to get these in time for Anime Expo, but they won’t make it for Fanime.

Blogger Shiz here.
Two posts in a row! Or just playing catch up.

We received the translation of Honoka Level Up vol 1 from translator Azusa earlier last week & sent the script to be edited by re-writer Jason.

Honoka Level Up is a manga about the video game industry in Japan, and sometimes they use made-up English words. Like “graphic-er,” which is a person who creates the graphics within a video game. After checking with my friends at Treyarch (Activision group), I learn that they’re usually called “artists” or “graphic artists.”

Then there are positions called “planner” in Japan, which translates to “designer” in the US. But they’re different from artists, since they design the different elements of the game like level map, enemy strength, where the enemy pops out, etc. I could see why they would be called “planners” in Japan.

And there are the video game character names. Since the games featured in Honoka Level Up are RPGs, I’ve asked my friend at Square Enix to help us in that end.

Thank goodness we’re familiar with doujinshi, game shows, and voice actors.
But with all the help we’re getting, we’ll be adding a “special thanks” section to our credits page.

Whew, it’s been a while since I wrote a blog entry that’s informative of the production process. Maybe I can dig up some more behind-the-scenes stories for our other titles.

Blogger Shiz here.

We assigned the layout of NUI vol 1 to layout staffer Mie last week.

I have to ask re-writer Jan to start working on the script for NUI vol 2 too. And I believe production staffer Yukiko is already working on NUI vol 3 translation.
