Broccoli Books Blog

I realized there’s so much going on at Broccoli Books that I need to write a big (long) production progress blog.

Not sure how many people out there really care for the inner workings of a manga publishing company (it’s pure chaos!), but there are some people (blogs) who are into knowing these things. Like Manga Blog. Like MangaCast. I love manga geeks.

Anyway… here’s the current progress at Broccoli Books:

World of Disgaea is delayed, much to the dismay of the sales department. We’re looking at a release of late January now… maybe early February. Mostly from fact checking, if anything. Oh, and the gigantic files that made our graphics staff & Mac’s cringe. We got the proofs from our printer last week & we’re making a few fixes to bad fonts (hm), bad Quark to InDesign conversion (grr), wrong gender (teehee).

E’S vol 1 is being printed as we speak.
I still need to submit a proposal to Square Enix about the give-away. Tohoho. I’ll have more time tomorrow once Broccoli President Yoshida leaves tomorrow. E’S vol 2 is being worked on by layout staffer Knuckles, and should be coming in next week. Hm, time to get the translation rolling for E’S vol 3.

Galaxy Angel II vol 1… we just got the proofs. So editor Dee is going over them & I’ll take a brief glance. We also got sample books for Galaxy Angel II vol 2 from Broccoli Japan & waiting for the data files to be sent to us. Oh, I also just got the copy of the Galaxy Angel II novel, so I’m reading through it. The story is before Galaxy Angel II manga begins, so it gives a lot of good background info. Back to Galaxy Angel II vol 2… translator Koji finished the translation, so we’re sending it off to re-writer Jason soon.

Disgaea 2 vol 1 was reviewed by NIS America & we’re making the final fixes. We don’t have a manga preview of Disgaea 2 vol 2, so editor Dee & designer Chris decided to be creative. Too creative, in my opinion, but I’m not a gamer, so my opinion probably doesn’t matter. We’re stuck on one crucial point in Disgaea 2 vol 1 which I hope will be resolved soon. Which I won’t talk about now.

Murder Princess (aka Title Madadane) was translated by translator S@ki & is currently in the hands of re-writer Jason. We just secured a new layout staffer for Murder Princess who will remain nameless until she gives us the OK to use her name.

We haven’t started translating Coyote Ragtime Show (Title Calendar Girls) or Devil Princess (Title Angel Food Cake in a Box), but we just received the data files for both titles.

On the licensing front, we have four new titles that were signed recently. Even though it may cause confusion among anime news sites, time to roll out the code names.

Title Cupie Mayonnaise & Title Lotus Arrangement are shoujo titles.

And the other two are boy’s love titles for a soon-to-be-named Broccoli Books imprint. Title Pelican Trunks & Title Kuroneko Yamato.

Oh, and we’re finalizing an art book series. Codename? Maybe next time.
