TAF 2007 Day 1

I stay at a business hotel in Ikebukuro while I’m in Japan… so I get to take the horrendous squeeze-as-many-people-as-you-can train to Big Sight convention center. Well, the packed train is only from Ikebukuro to Shibuya… but it’s still not pleasant.

I couldn’t get a hold of the Broccoli Japan staff, so I went over to the international professional registration area. It was like a US anime convention w/ lots of familiar faces! I saw producer Taku & producer Richard from Bandai Ent w/ their bossman Ken. They had brought along the video-Haruhi girl, who was dressed up as Haruhi. Hori-Pro Nobu was there w/ them. I also saw John & Masumi from CPM, who were first in line.

President Kaname & I first met w/ NIS. Not that we can’t have a meeting in LA, but we still met up for a bit of follow-up on projects. We’re working on couple of book deals with NIS, so stay tuned for more info. We also do lots of product development w/ them, so more info on that coming soon too.

After lunch, we headed over to the Media Works booth for a meeting. We discussed couple of new title options, which will fall nicely with our current line of Media Works titles.

After that, we just walked around the exhibit hall, bumping into people we knew & chatting.

At the end of the day, we met up w/ COSPA folks. The top guns there know President Kaname since he was… well, cosplaying Prince Kaname… so we meet w/ them pretty regularly. The UART/Broccoli/Bandai Visual booth displayed COSPA costumes at NY Comic Con, so we just gave them an update on that. And they told us about new projects they’re working on. Some things will make their way to the US in the near future.

After the event, I went out to dinner w/ illustrator Yuka Kayura. We became friends after she visited Anime Expo last year w/ singers yozuca* and rino. Since she stays home all the time (being an illustrator and all), and me not being used to the amount of people in Japan… we were just overwhelmed with the crowds in Shinjuku. So tired! But the food was delicious.

[…] Jordan Marks of Yaoi Suki has put together everything we know about the CPM/Libre situation, including a timeline, some factlets that had escaped notice so far, and some considered commentary. And Shizuki from Broccoli spotted John and Masumi O’Donnell at the Tokyo Animation Fair: they were first in line at registration. […]
