Fanime 2007 Day 0
Hello!
I’m in San Jose, CA right now at Fanime.
Today was a loooong day.
Woke up at 5:00am to get on a 8:00am flight… so I could be in San Francisco airport before Inui-sensei arrived. Then I got lost in SFO (it’s really the lack of sleep), but managed to get to the Int’l terminal before Yamaga-san (director of Honneamise) walked out. Inui-sensei came out soon after.
The lovely people of Fanime got us a white stretch limo to go to San Jose.
Inui-sensei took photos.
Maybe a limo will show up in his manga some day.
After checking into the hotel & washing up, we went over the schedule for the weekend. And since we had a relatively free day today on Day 0, I asked Inui-san if he had anywhere he wanted to go to.
He did.
Comic book shop & toy store.
Of course it’s a pretty typical request, so we headed over to a local comic book shop & Toys R Us.
He likes Captain America & Spiderman.
Well, pretty much anything Marvel.
But those two especially.
So he picked up a lot of things, including the “death issue.”
Altho he didn’t know about the death.
Whoops, I just spoiled it for him.
Altho he doesn’t really follow the story, but is really into Captain America’s look. When he has his shield on his back, it reminds me of the turtle shell weight training of Drag*nb*ll.
Chigau?
Oh, OK.
We went to eat a late lunch, then headed over to the staff pizza party to meet w/ the Fanime staff.
And after being stuffed with noodles & pizza, we headed over to a supermarket to buy snacks. Inui-san wanted to get the Spiderman cereal bowl that you can send in by buying two boxes of Cocoa Puffs, but was disappointed that it was a mail-in promo.
So that was our day today.
Tomorrow is an interview w/ Manga Cast, Opening Ceremonies & Meet the Guest Reception.
Please say hi if you see us walking around.

“He likes Captain America”
That actually surprises me, because of all the superheroes which might be popular with Japanese audiences, I’d never imagine one which was part of the Allies catching on with anyone there. I hope he wasn’t too distraught to hear about the Captain’s “cancellation”. (Nowadays, though, in the comic world, it’s usually a “hiatus”.)
“& Spiderman”
Is he still a fan after the last movie? ^_-

You could just buy the boxes for him, and save the bowl for his next visit, assuming the offer’s still valid…

RE: Capt’n America
Oh, I wasn’t sure if the story ended w/ the “death” so I told him the story was continuing. Whoops. I’ll have to find someone who knows stuff about that.
RE: Spiderman
He hadn’t seen the movie yet.
So I didn’t want to say anything. Heh.
