Fanime 2007 Day 2

Oh, I’m tired.
The end.

OK, that’s not cool.

Started w/ breakfast.
And we went over the schedule of the day with everyone. I’m juggling 3 schedules + my own, so it takes a bit of coordinating.

Then we headed over to the green room to pass the time.
Bandai Visual got some shikishi boards signed by Yamaga-san, including a sketch on each. So Inui-sensei decided to get an autograph by Yamaga-san too.

Meanwhile, there was a lot of sketching going on.
“Do you remember how to draw XXX?” game.

Keroro, Goku, Gundam… hee hee.

Then we headed over to the Artist’s Alley to have Inui-sensei’s autograph session. Inui-sensei was impressed that most of the girls brought Murder Princess. Guys were about 50-50 between Comic Party & Murder Princess.

Then we walked around Artist’s Alley & Dealer’s Room until Asami Sanada’s panel. It’s too bad that we couldn’t talk about Rozen Maiden, where Sanada-san & Miyuki-chan were in another series together… but in completely different roles.

Inui-sensei sat in the back to watch Sanada-san’s panel, to see how the panels are run.

Then it was time for Inui-sensei’s first panel.
He talked about how he was a big fan of Comic Party illustrator & had given her a CP doujinshi he drew, and the illustrator had recommended him to draw the manga version.

So after two hours of talking straight through, my throat was pretty beat.

After the panel, we had a press junket scheduled, but we had to move it because there was a conflict with the Meet the Guest reception.

We headed to another hotel for the Meet the Guest reception part 2.
On the way to the hotel, there were a row of newpaper holders that were different colors, so everyone stopped to take pictures of them. And Yamaga-san took a picture of everyone’s shadows that are lined up, as we took pictures. It was a very pretty photo.

Meet the Guest reception 2 was open to regular participants. They had a different set-up than usual, where the tables were smaller & the guests didn’t sit around in one place. Inui-sensei went to all the tables to chat w/ the attendees, and his voice got pretty hoarse.

After the reception, we went out to eat. But on the way back to the hotel, there was a R2D2 mailbox, so Inui-sensei & Sanada-san both took pictures with it.

We went to a Vietnamese restaurant for dinner. I spent most of my time talking to editor Carl Horn about the manga industry. And how to create good adaptations. I hope I get invited to be part of a panel about those types of topics some day.

After dinner, we went to the supermarket again b/c Sanada-san wanted to buy some funny souvenirs for friends. Inui-sensei bought more green juice (like Naked Juice’s green machine, but I don’t know what Odwalla calls it), since he liked it last time.

We were a bit tight on space, so Inui-sensei sat in the back of the mini van. We took out the 3rd row of seats to accommodate for merchandise & supplies… and that’s where he sat. I’m going to be forever branded as a terrible person who makes manga artists sit in the back of mini vans.

Tomorrow is Broccoli Books panel.
And then some.
