Here are some questions I received in the last few weeks.
I don’t have a lot of good news for most of you… sorry about that.
If you have any other questions, please email editor(at)broccolibooks.com.

Q. I’m wondering whether Sola volume two is out yet. If not, when will it be released?
A. sola vol 2 has not been released, and will not be released by Broccoli Books.
Q. Titles Such as Galaxy Angel II and Disgaea II, What is going to happen to the remaining volumes? Are they going to end where they left off, and leave it’s readers in the dark, or is there still hope for these titles being released to the very end? Being a faithful reader of Galaxy Angel II, and having a local bookstore special order the soon to be released Volume 4, I am very curious as to what will happen with this title. I just wanted to know if any other company will pick up these titles to finish their release, or will they just be left as is?
A. Unfortunately Broccoli Books will not be releasing the rest of Galaxy Angel II or Disgaea 2. We are working with each of the respective licensors in Japan to help facilitate the titles to be picked up & released by a different US publisher. We’ll keep everyone posted if any of the titles are picked up.
Q. I am writing you is to ask if you have any merchandise (not manga or dvds) that you still have stock of that you will need to take care of before you end operations. Like I said, I am quite a fan of your properties and would appreciate a chance to get any remaining items from you.
A. We are planning to have one last warehouse sale on December 12, 2008 at our Los Angeles office. We haven’t decided on the format yet, but it will most likely be “make your own grab bag” format.
If you live in the Los Angeles area, please come to the warehouse sale. We’ll make an announcement about it in the first week of December.
If you don’t live in the Los Angeles area, maybe you can have a friend come by?
Q. Can I check with you when will Disgaea 2 Vol 3 released ?
A. Disgaea 2 vol 3 has not been released yet, and will not be released by Broccoli Books anymore.
Q. Are you able to ship dust jackets/stickers to England?
A. The official answer is “no, we cannot ship dust jackets & stickers to England.”
It’s because we only have the license to sell the English language version of the manga in the United States & Canada.
But since we have plenty of dust jackets & stickers on hand, we can ship you the ones you need. I might not get around to it until Jan/Feb 2009, though.
Q. Were volumes 3 and 4 of _Leave it to Piyoko_ ever released?
A. Leave it to Piyoko manga is only two volumes. Only the first volume was released, and we were starting to upload bits of vol 2 in BROCOMI.
Leave it to Piyoko anime series has a total of 8 episodes, and two volumes long. Both volumes have been released for the anime series.

So… will we ever see volume 2 of Leave it to Piyoko in whole?
November 26th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
What about Devil Princess volume 3? Will we ever see it in stores?

What? You dropped sola v.2, even though it was little more than a week away from release? You could’ve at least released it as a final send-off to all your loyal fans, but no. You decided to pull a Tokyopop and unceremoniously remove it without so much as an apology. Way to fail, Broccoli Books.

Are Nui! volumes 2 and 3 not going to be published either?
November 26th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Please do give us an update on whether any of the titles have been picked. I’m really interested to see who’ll pick up Sola and Koi Cupid since they were some of my favorites.
And to the person who commented third, how could Broccoli publish all those Sola books if they’re going out of business partially because of finances and the bad economy? They don’t have the money to do all that. Plus then they would be obligated to publish all their remaining titles and Boyenberry’s as well. Just be patient and someone will pick up the manga once more, afterall Bandai has its anime rights and is advertised quite a bit so it’ll probably be a short amount of time when another publisher will pick it up.

I had asked this question over on the Synch-Point blog but I wasn’t sure if I’d get a response there.
What is going on with the defective FLCL discs? Am I still going to be able to get a replacement for mine before you guys shut down? I sent emails back in August and September and never got any reply back.

To mewmewgal312:
Ever heard of the phrase “finish what you started”? They had only one more volume to go- it should not have been that difficult to accomplish (even with minimal funds).
Also, I’m worried that it’ll end up in the hands of some far less-talented publisher. Bandai may make some excellent anime, but it needs a better translation staff and more diverse array of titles (Eureka Seven being a prime example of how NOT to translate and localize a manga).
Be patient, mewmewgal312? I’ve waited four years for someone to resume “Those Who Hunt Elves” (seeing as how ADV Manga isn’t budging- how about giving the licenses over to someone who’ll ACTUALLY use them, jerks?!). Don’t even get me started on Area 88, Beck, Yotsuba&!, and a host of others…

Broccoli Books will not be releasing the rest of Galaxy Angel II

I really hope I’m not making enemies here since I was disappointed that Broccoli Books is closing shop and discontinuing many of our favorite manga, as well.
To insaneben:
Well, patience is probably the only thing at the moment that will get these series published and of course, money, which obviously many companies are hurting for due to the bad economy. I’m very sorry to hear that many of your favorite manga books aren’t coming out when you’re expecting them but many of us are in that same position. If you want to at least feel like you had an impact of making your favorite series come faster try petitioning it if you haven’t already. Or you could look into manga scanlations online to find the works that you’ve been waiting for, Onemanga is one of the many sites that has hundreds of manga scans to choose from. These are among many of the alternatives that you could look into.
As for you saying that they had 1 more volume to go on Sola…yes, I already knew that and was expecting it to come out as well for Christmas. If Broccoli did decide to let it out before they closed (which they really don’t have the time for, I think that they have to official close by the year’s end) then they would be obligated to publish all the remaining unfinished books (Leave it to Piyoko Vol.2, Koi Cupid Vol.2, Nui! Vol.2, etc.) for other anticipating readers. That’s what I meant be using the big money that Broccoli doesn’t have right now, besides publishing one volume from a series (thousands of copies) does add up in cost not including all the work that goes into bringing into the U.S.
Please don’t take this offensively, but there are reasons (many most don’t know but speculate) that manga publishing companies are taking awhile to put out several titles, they’re not being jerks to anger their readers, that would defeat the whole purpose of making money, right? You really ought to look on both sides of the issue before making such bad comments about companies like ADV and Broccoli. We’re all sad that we’re losing our favorite series since they’ll be put on hiatus for while but you’re not the only one in this group. Please remember that. I apologize for such a long message I couldn’t wrap up what I needed to say without being so wordy. Anyways,…have a great Thanksgiving.

“you could look into manga scanlations online to find the works that you’ve been waiting for,”
this is EXACTLY the reason broccoli japan pulled the plug. sales are down because people are doing the scanlations online and not buying the books. I would rather wait months for a title than get a scanlation with bad translation or translation that the scanner believes is better than the official translation.
Like i always say it’s this sense of entitlement the internet gives that is destroying companies and driving up prices for those lucky enough to still be around. Just because some little kid or adult with kid mentality says i want it now and gets it. you’ve got some nerve mentioning a site that may have contributed to the demise of broccoli and maybe the reason adv and others have stopped manga altogether. I have never downloaded any anime or manga and i never will just for this very reason.
When the day finally comes when scanlations and fansubs finally destroy anime and manga retail and the majority of fandom dies out in america nobody should have any tears because we brought it on ourselves with our selfish and foolish actions.
November 27th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I do agree with you that many scanlation sites did have a negative impact on manga publishers but I only mentioned that site so that other person could find that manga that they were waiting for four years. I actually try to buy the books as often as I can. And yes, copyright laws should be tightened a bit but that really isn’t going to happen very soon, is it? But if it was stopped, that wouldn’t stop anyone, you, me,etc. from looking into those alternatives.
Perhaps I did have some nerve mentioning that site but I was doing to help insaneben find his/her favorite manga that’s been missing in action for years. (I did have good intentions for doing so, so don’t beat me up on that). In reality though, I don’t remember very many works that Broccoli licensed on scan sites, only 1 or 2 that I can think of and it wasn’t even the complete works. So I highly doubt it was scan sites that made a big impact on Broccoli but rather competition from other publishers like Tokyopop and Viz.
I want to get this straight with anyone else that will continue to totally misunderstand what I’ve tried to say in the last few posts. 1. Yes, I’m disappointed with many publishers going down the drain, this means we lose our favorite manga and the great quality that comes with it; 2. I really don’t like the free use of piracy that scanlation sites use but if its with a series that haven’t been published for years, I really don’t see any harm by looking for it online to see if it was continued (if a series was gone for 4 years, I doubt that company would be hurt by looking for it online since its not contributing to that company anymore); and 3.Despite its handiness, yes, scanlations are awful (not all though) compared to the books, on most scan sites they do encourage to buy the books, whether the person does, that’s their choice.
Anyways, if anyone has the real reason why companies like Broccoli are failing please post that information so we can all have this cleared up. I’m really not looking for enemies but was giving advice to others who were still searching for their favorite manga. Anyways, have a great holiday, Rob, insaneben, and all the others who hate me now just for offering some small advice, I really had no evil intentions for mentioning this.

So, will you be handing off Pandora Hearts or any of the other series you never got to start to another publisher at any time?
November 28th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
can’t thay let you finish publising Galaxy Angel II there only 3 vol to go….
and also for Solo..
i love Broccoli USA quality book. the pages would not turn yellow.
is thise because of free tranlation fault?….because i buy manga all the time. i even buy some manga that are in japanese.
November 29th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
“Ever heard of the phrase “finish what you started”?”
This is a huge problem, I think. I’m so fed up with unfinished series by now that I almost on principle wait for a whole series to come out before I buy it (except maybe vol 1 to try it out).
And this of course leads to a quite obvious Catch 22. :(
November 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Although I don’t agree with the harsh tone in which you said it, I basically agree with P.A.; I mean, I can understand SOMETIMES having to drop a series because of sales or whatever, but… come one. Dejiko’s Adventure was three volumes. Leave it to Piyoko was two. It wouldn’t have killed you to release them. ): And it makes the fans lose faith in you… They feel like it’s not safe to buy the series, because who knows if they’ll be able to finish it? Before this whole, Broccoli Books closing thing was announced, I was hesitating about buying Koi Cupid and Nui! for this reason (and I probably won’t, now, since I know I can’t finish them… I’d rather import them in Japanese.)
November 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Oops, I’m sorry, it was insaneben who said it originally.
December 1st, 2008 at 2:25 pm
When I heard the news… “A mini-world collapsed in me”. I waited for Koi Cupid vol 2, and Disgaea 2 vol 3…
We MUST do something to save Broccoli Books! >_<
December 1st, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Unless we can magically boost economy in America, I unfortunately don’t see that happening. ):
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Yeah I agree. But that would be great. :) Hopefully all the titles will get a good home so we can enjoy them once again.
December 2nd, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Yeah… here’s to hoping that somebody finishes all those DGC series ;_; (*cough* hope it’s not TokyoPop *cough*)
Ultimately, I’m wishing for the health and safety of all the workers of Broccoli of America. I hope you all find new places to work with speed and ease.
December 4th, 2008 at 9:23 am
So I’m assuming that Kamui will be unfinished as well? Understandable. Two volumes left to the series. And there’s of course E’s with 15 volumes in Japan and we’re only at vol. 04 in the US. Then again, this isn’t the only series from this company I’ve only gotten half of it from because it was dropped. (Tenshi ni Narumon aka I’m Gonna Be An Angel)
While I haven’t picked up many volumes from Broccoli, the ones I have I did enjoy rather much. Good luck to all those at the work place. Hopefully you can find jobs again in this down economy.
I guess I’ll try to find Kamui eventually, since I doubt any one else will pick it up so close to the ending. Of course, with Square-Enix being the publisher, maybe Yen Press will get these two series. Since they seem to be publishing quite a few Square-Enix titles.
And to those arguing about “Oh, it’s only a volume left to publish…” Well, having worked at an anime store that did shut down, once the decision is made, they’re more interested in shutting down and getting rid of stock than incurring more costs and more stock to get rid of. And by that point, the money just isn’t there to do much else.
December 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Wished I had something to say for all this. I’ve seen it all before, and it’s nothing new. If only I bothered operating my own publishing firm, I would’ve done something about it right now.

Is Koi Cupid being published by someone else?
March 21st, 2009 at 4:24 pm
This is right here, in the present, not the future.
