Hi, blogger Shiz here.

Graphics assistant Cno is starting to work on the extra pages for My Dearest Devil Princess vol 3.

The way the color pages are inserted in the Japanese book… we only have room for 2 pages in the front of the book. So it’s going to be the title page & table of contents. All other information we put in the front of the book will be sent to the back of the book.

Otherwise, we won’t be able to insert the color pages. It’s so complicated.

Freelance editor Dee is coming by this week to work on the extra pages that are going in the back of the book… altho there are no new summons in vol 3, so what will we include in the back? Probably more pages for the preview section.

Oh, we came into the office today b/c we took last Friday off. Last Friday was our “summer vacation” to make up for working 4th of July weekend. We ignore Labor Day b/c there are conventions during this weekend… but we didn’t go to any this year.

Blogger Shiz here again.

I finally got through checking over Honoka Level Up vol 1.

Now I need to hand it over to graphics assistant Cno to make the fixes & we’ll submit to print.

Although I want to go through and re-write the translation notes… some of it is too word-y and Wikipedia-y, and it’s missing a few things. I’ll work on it next week.

Hi, blogger Shiz here.

I just received the Cigarette Kisses files from Studio Kuro Uzu, who are working on the Boysenberry line.

Since freelance editor Hope was in the office to work on the final bits of Koi Cupid vol 2, I asked her to copy edit the book one last time before we send them off to the printers.

Will we make it in time for Yaoi Con? Hopefully… I had forgotten that Yaoi Con is earlier this year (September, not October!), so I wasn’t panicking about it… until freelance editor S@ki reminded me of the convention date. Eeeep!

Ganbaro~!

Hi, blogger Shiz here.

I just got the Koi Cupid vol 2 PDFs from graphics assistant Cno, so I sent them over to Broccoli Japan for approval. We should be getting a response in a week, so we can send the files over to the printers.

Meanwhile, it’s being copy edited by freelance editor Dee for one last look-through.

Hmm, this one is ahead of schedule. Freelance editor Hope is really kicking my butt to move on this project.

Now I really need to get my butt moving on Honoka Level Up vol 1.

Hi, blogger Shiz here.

We received the first draft of My Dearest Devil Princess vol 3 from freelance layout staffer Erikat. Graphics assistant Cno printed out the pages, although there were a few files missing, so we need to get them from Erikat.

Freelance editor Dee will be working on the edit on this book with me, so he should be starting on it later this week.

If everything goes smoothly, My Dearest Devil Princess vol 3 will go on sale October 2008.

Hi, blogger Shiz here.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but Nui vol 1 arrived last week.

So it should start hitting bookstores in 2-3 weeks.

I’ll be busy sending out review copies to folks… I haven’t even gotten around to sending out Koi Cupid vol 1 and sola vol 1. Eep!

Hello, blogger Shiz here.

Graphics assistant Cno printed out the newly fixed pages of Koi Cupid vol 2, so I went through the packet along with the Japanese manga in hand to make sure all of the translations are correct.

I had forgotten how long this process takes!

It took me over 3 hours to go through the entire book!

I read the page in spreads (2 pages at a time) in Japanese first, then read them in English. Back and forth between both books. And my right eye got infected over the weekend, so my right eye is teary and mucus-y too. Bad timing!

Anyway, a lot of phrases in Japanese are vague. So when the translator translates the line & doesn’t include a note saying “this is what character XX is feeling as she says this,” then the re-writer interprets the translation as something else… and it starts to not make sense. Or it makes sense, but it doesn’t make sense in the whole story.

Take for example, this page I worked on.

The girl character says “I see… (noun) will forget for sure.” in Japanese. This (noun) isn’t written out in Japanese, because it’s not necessary in the Japanese language. So in the final text in English, it was written “He’ll forget about me.” But actually, she’s talking about herself.

I don’t want to give out spoilers on why she’ll forget, so you’ll just have to read the book when it comes out (probably in October/November?).

Oh, for those who are Tokyo Mew Mew fans… cupid Koi puts away a book called Petit Mew Mew in the school library. Cute, huh?

So did I get any other work done today?
No… time to rest my poor eyes.

PS. Graphics assistant Cno & freelance editor Hope will be working on the rest of the edits & fixes for Koi Cupid vol 2 this week. I need to scoot this book off to a copy editor too.
