Hi blogger Shiz here.
I finally got around and started working on the HUGE backlog of the dust jacket committee work.
Several notices for those who bought Murder Princess vol 2, Koi Cupid vol 1, sola vol 1 and Nui vol 1.
We never got around to printing the stickers for these books, so we will be sending you alternate items. Koi Cupid & Nui readers will receive Pita-Ten and Di Gi Charat stickers. Murder Princess and sola readers will receive a Galaxy Angel mousepad.
We apologize for the inconvenience & disappointment in not getting you the proper stickers. It’s impossible at this point to get the OK from the licensors to print the stickers for these books.
The dust jackets & stickers will be mailing out tomorrow and the rest of the week!

Hello, long time no post.
This is blogger Shiz as usual.
I’ve been busy w/ a lot of non-production related things, so I haven’t been able to post here. But I do write on the Industry Babble blog.
Anyhoo, we were contacted by some customers & also from our distributor that there was a binding error on Nui vol 1. It seems like page 38 is doubled up, and page 34 is missing?
We’re checking to see how widespread the binding error is (maybe certain batches, or the entire production), and it’s likely we’ll have a recall on the books. We’re not sure how it’ll be handled, although it’ll be impossible for our office to handle the returns, so we’ll probably ask bookstores to handle it for us.
When I get more information from our distributor & printer, I’ll post information here.
And send out a mailing list mailer.
I was cleaning up our marketing supply closet & found a box of autographed manga. So I’ll probably give them away on the mailing list. They’re old books (like Galaxy Angel vol 1), but who’d complain about free stuff, right?
Production updates?
I have none at this time.
Freelance editor Hope dropped by with Nui vol 2, but I haven’t looked it over yet… so maybe I’ll have her write a blog entry for me.

Hi blogger Shiz here.
Graphics assistant Cno is working on the extra pages for Nui vol 2, so freelance editor Hope can pick up the packet to start working on the edits.
There’s cute corgi puppies in this volume.
I’m generally a cat person, but lately I’ve been thinking dogs are pretty cute too. I’m not sure if my cat would like a dog living w/ her, though…

Hi, blogger Shiz here.
I forgot to mention this earlier, but Nui vol 1 arrived last week.
So it should start hitting bookstores in 2-3 weeks.
I’ll be busy sending out review copies to folks… I haven’t even gotten around to sending out Koi Cupid vol 1 and sola vol 1. Eep!

Hello, blogger Shiz here.
Forgot to mention this on Tuesday, but graphics assistant Cno uploaded the newest issue of BROCOMI.
This month is Nui vol 1.
I think next month we’ll feature the first 19 pages from Leave it to Piyoko vol 2. Since it was the most requested title in the August 2008 Q&A blog entry.

Hi, blogger Shiz here.
I just did the final edit of Nui vol 1.
This was my first read-through, so being my usual picky self, I demanded a lot of changes.
Poor production staff… they think they’re all done & I mess it up for them.
*sigh*
Well, the changes weren’t that big anyway.
The license manager at JIVE (who reads this blog… *gulp*), was asking if the files were ready to be approved, so we wrapped up the front pages & back pages and sent them for approval.
Still… I didn’t like the order of the ads in the back of the book, so I asked marketing coordinator Jonathan & crew to re-order them. It’s hard to explain how to order the ads… it’s just a feeling. Like “this feels right” kind of feeling. Anyhoo, this time it’ll be “same age rating titles that are new” in the beginning. Like Honoka Level Up and Koi Cupid.
I also need to send the color insert for Nui vol 1… which is in the middle of the book! We did it before with Disgaea2 vol 1 (and maybe one of the Galaxy Angel books?), but adding color inserts in the middle of the book requires a lot of pagination adjustments.
Basically you need multiples of 16 pages on either side of the color insert. Since books are printed in 16-page increments. Please read up on publishing to understand why it’s 16-page increments. It’s too bothersome to explain here (lazy!).
We’re shooting for an August release for Nui vol 1.
We’re on schedule, right?

Hi this is Yukiko.
The rewrite for Nui #2 has completed by our rewriter Jan.
After looking over the script, we can send the final script to our layout designer Mie.
Since Jan had several questions, we had an discussion to make the English sound better.
Translating some of the Japanese nuances into English can be difficult.
I think Jan did a great job rewriting the script.
I learned a lot of good English phrases and sound effects from the new rewrited script!
Since I am working on the translation for Nui #3, I am learning a lot right now.
In Nui #2, there will be couple of new characters come in.
The story is very cute too!

Hi this is Yukiko.
How are you all doing?
We printed out Nui #1 and I started doing the first edit from yesterday.
Since I translated this manga, it is very exciting to see the layout.

First thing that I need to do in the first edit is to check if there is no missing translations.
Some times, the small text are missing.
When I see those I add the translations in.
Second thing that I need to do is check if all of the text is in the right place and it is readable.
Sometimes the text is not inside the bubble, so I need to note that in the print out to fix.
I also try to look at the original Japanese text and see if there is no strange dialogues in English.
If there is a need for a major change, I usually talk to the rewriter since they come up with better English phrase than me.
I usually talk with the rewriter before the layout staff layout the manga so that we can make major corrections beforehand.
Basically after rewriter staff and I fix the necessary places, the packet can passed on for 2nd edit.
Since I am working on the first edit since yesterday, I have couple more pages to go.
I should be able to finish today or tomorrow morning.
In the same time, I need to work on the pages that will go in the back of the book.
That is translation notes and volume 2 preview pages.
I usually type up the text in the word document for translation notes.
For the preview pages, I select interesting scene from volume 2 and paste the translation for that scene also in word document.
Then, our graphics assistant Cno can do the layout for the translation notes page and the preview page.
I will continue and work on the translation notes text now.

Hey, this is blogger Shiz.
Layout staffer Mie had turned in the first draft of Nui vol 1 earlier this week, but we were finally able to get it printed. Stupid font issues… *grumble*
Production staff Yukiko will go through the first edit next week.
I talked about my editing process… maybe production staff Yukiko can go into details of what she does on a daily basis. Like how she’s been answering questions from rewriter Jan, who’s currently working on the script for Nui vol 2.
